Enhanced Electromagnetic Wave Absorption for Y2O3-Doped SiBCN Ceramics

Chengen Wang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the promoting effect of Y2O3 doping on the formation of crystalline phases and electromagnetic wave absorption properties of SiBCN ceramics, with an effective absorption bandwidth of 4.72 GHz and excellent oxidation resistance at high temperatures. Rare metal oxidation is beneficial for the growth of crystalline phases in PDCs, enhancing both EMW-absorbing properties and oxidation resistance.

The formation of chemical/structural gradients in strong covalent bonded SiBN fibers under active nitrogen atmosphere

Xin Long et al.

Summary: In this work, SiBN fibers with chemical/structural gradients were fabricated under active nitrogen atmosphere at 1700°C, showing better high-temperature stability. The formation of chemical gradient was contributed to boron atoms diffusion under B-N bond-breaking, while structural gradients were formed with graded phase separation of Si-N-B networks and crystallization behavior of Si3N4 phase. The findings may serve as a universal method to fabricate chemical/structural gradients on other boron-containing ceramics.

A comparative study on high temperature oxidation behavior of SiC, SiC-BN and SiBCN monoliths

Meng Zhang et al.

Summary: The study compared the oxidation behavior and mechanism of SiBCN monoliths with SiC and SiC-BN monoliths, revealing that SiBCN monoliths had better oxidation resistance due to the positive role of BN(C) phase during oxidation. At different temperatures, SiC and SiC-BN monoliths showed different levels of oxidation damage, with SiC-BN monoliths exhibiting more cracks and bubbles compared to SiC and SiBCN monoliths.
