Global Characterisation of Coagulopathy in Isolated Traumatic Brain Injury (iTBI): A CENTER-TBI Analysis

Julia K. Boehm et al.

Summary: Trauma-induced coagulopathy in TBI patients is associated with high rates of complications, unfavourable outcomes, and mortality. This study found that approximately 20% of iTBI patients had hemostatic disorders, with those receiving pre-injury anticoagulant and/or antiplatelet therapy being twice as likely to have exacerbated coagulation profiles. Several independent risk factors for coagulopathy in iTBI patients without pre-injury anticoagulant therapy were identified, including GCS ≤ 8, BE ≤ -6, hypothermia, and hypotension.

Effects of Primary Decompressive Craniectomy on the Outcomes of Serious Traumatic Brain Injury with Mass Lesions, and Independent Predictors of Operation Decision

Chen Yang et al.

Summary: The study found that primary decompressive craniectomy may benefit some patients with severe traumatic brain injury with mass lesions. Pupillary reflex and basal cistern status could predict the decision for decompressive craniectomy.

Delayed Neurosurgical Intervention in Traumatic Brain Injury Patients Referred From Primary Hospitals Is Not Associated With an Unfavorable Outcome

Niklas Grevfors et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of triaging and delayed transfers on traumatic brain injury patients in need of neurosurgical care. It was found that there was no significant correlation between direct trauma center transfers and secondary referrals in terms of outcomes. Additionally, the time from trauma to surgery did not affect the results.

Summary: The study found that geographic differences and hospital characteristics are independent predictors for surgical intervention in severe traumatic brain injury. Geographic region and hospital factors may influence the likelihood of patients undergoing surgical treatment.

Sex and age differences in isolated traumatic brain injury: a retrospective observational study

Sanae Hosomi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of sex differences on mortality and complications in TBI patients, finding that males in Japan generally have a higher mortality rate than females. This disparity is particularly evident among younger and older patients, with elderly males experiencing more TBI complications compared to females of the same age.
