Promoted formation of stereocomplex in enantiomeric poly(lactic acid)s induced by cellulose nanofibers

Qian Ren et al.

Summary: The addition of cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) significantly reduced the half-crystallization time of the PLLA/PDLA blend, and when 3% modified CNFs were incorporated, almost exclusively SC crystallites were formed with no HC crystallite presence. This was speculated to be due to enhanced interchain molecular interactions between CNFs and PLA, presenting a feasible and efficient method for producing high-performance PLA materials with exclusively SC crystallites.

Preparation and properties of thermoplastic polyurethane foams with bimodal structure based on TPU/PDMS blends

Bozhen Wu et al.

Summary: Aiming to fabricate polymer foams with bimodal structures remains challenging in both industrial and academic fields. By mixing PDMS into TPU and utilizing the foaming dynamics difference between the two materials, foams with distinct bimodal structures were successfully prepared. These bimodal structure foams exhibit excellent compressive strength and modulus, as well as higher sound insulation compared to foams with uniform structures.

Lightweight and strong gelling agent-reinforced injection-molded polypropylene composite foams fabricated using low-pressure CO2 as the foaming agent

Qian Ren et al.

Summary: An innovative method combining sorbitol gelling agent and low-pressure microcellular injection molding (MIM) technique was reported to produce high-performance polypropylene (PP) foams. The addition of sorbitol gelling agent notably enhanced the crystallization, viscoelasticity and melt strength of PP, resulting in PP foams with well-defined cellular structures and increased tensile toughness and strength. The scalable and novel FIM technique shows promising future applications in automotive, construction and electrical components.

Lightweight and strong glass fiber reinforced polypropylene composite foams achieved by mold-opening microcellular injection molding

Chunxia Yang et al.

Summary: Microcellular injection molding (MIM) is a flexible, efficient, and environmentally friendly foaming technology used to prepare plastic foams with complex shapes. Mold-opening microcellular injection molding (MOMIM) was used to prepare high-performance polypropylene/glass fiber (PP/GF) composite foams, which exhibit significantly improved mechanical properties compared to pure PP foams. MOMIM can enhance the flexural modulus of molded samples, and the addition of glass fiber in PP/GF composites can greatly increase tensile strength and modulus.
