Cycling: joint kinematics and muscle activity during differing intensities

Wendy Holliday et al.

Summary: This study assessed the changes in EMG magnitudes and 3D kinematics of well-trained cyclists at different exercise intensities. The results showed significant differences in all joints except the hip and shoulder. With higher intensities, ankle dorsiflexion and knee extension increased, elbow flexion increased, lumbar and thoracic flexion increased, and there were significant increases in EMG signal amplitude for all muscle groups.

The Effect of Cycling-specific Vibration on Neuromuscular Performance

Josef Viellehner et al.

Summary: This study aimed to understand how surface-induced vibrations in cycling affect short-term neuromuscular performance. The results showed that vibrations increased local accelerations, muscle activation, oxygen consumption, and heart rate. However, the impact of vibrations on the main propulsive muscles in the thigh was limited.
