Tectonic and eustatic control of Mesaverde Group Wyoming-Utah-Colorado region, USA

Keith P. Minor et al.

Summary: By describing and analyzing the depositional history and stratigraphic architecture of the southern greater Green River basin of Wyoming, USA, and surrounding areas, we gained a better understanding of the interplay between tectonic and eustatic forces that shaped the stratigraphy. Our findings reveal the influence of both tectonic and eustatic forces on the formation of the stratigraphic units, highlighting the importance of studying the interaction between tectonic controls and sea-level changes.

Sediment transport and deposition in flood-tidal deltas: Insight from the Texas Coast

Carolina Ramon-Duenas et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the modern sediment dynamics of a microtidal system in San Luis Pass, Texas, revealing an increase in water depth and significant erosion post Hurricane Harvey. Finer sediments were found after the hurricane, likely due to high runoff during the storm event.

Earliest evidence of marine habitat use by mammals

Anton F. -J. Wroblewski et al.

Summary: This study presents incontrovertible ichnofossil evidence for the utilization of brackish-water habitats by at least two mammalian species in southern Wyoming during the late Paleocene (58 Ma). It provides the first recorded Paleocene mammal trackways in the United States and only the fourth documented in the world. The findings support recent molecular phylogenetic studies regarding the origin of Cetartiodactyla near the Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary.
