Readsorption of rare earth elements during leaching process of ion-adsorption-type rare earth ore

Li Wang et al.

Summary: A leaching experiment was conducted on simulated rare earth ore pillars with uneven grade distribution to address the readsorption issue of rare earth elements in the in situ leaching process of ion-adsorption-type rare earth ore. The results showed that readsorption in the barren layer significantly reduced rare earth concentration in the leachate, recovery rate, and prolonged the leaching process. The concentration of rare earth in the inflow and pH value of leaching agents had limited impact on the process. Magnesium sulfate leaching required a higher liquid-to-solid ratio compared to ammonium sulfate leaching, and exhibited lower peak value of rare earth concentration and more pronounced tailings in the leaching curve. Readsorption of rare earth elements was more severe in magnesium sulfate leaching than in ammonium sulfate leaching, suggesting the need to avoid areas without ore belts when using magnesium sulfate for leaching.

Adsorption and desorption performances of ammonium on the weathered crust elution-deposited rare earth ore

Shuxin Huang et al.

Summary: The study found that using magnesium salt as an eluent effectively removes the remaining ammonium ions from the weathered crust elution-deposited rare earth ore. Ammonium ions were adsorbed in a monolayer on the WCE-DREO and clay minerals, with different structures affecting their adsorption capacities. pH and co-ions both had an impact on ammonium adsorption.
