Aberrant integrity of the cortico-limbic-striatal circuit in major depressive disorder with suicidal ideation

Jun Yang et al.

Summary: This study found that MDD patients with suicidal ideation have connectivity disruptions between the amygdala and other brain regions. This suggests the importance of the amygdala in suicidal ideation and provides a valuable neural basis for further research on suicidal ideation in MDD.

Altered regional brain activity and functional connectivity patterns in major depressive disorder: A function of childhood trauma or diagnosis?

Qianyi Luo et al.

Summary: Childhood trauma is a non-specific risk factor for major depressive disorder. However, the neurobiological mechanisms of major depressive disorder with childhood trauma are still unclear. In this study, alterations in intrinsic brain activity were assessed using fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation and functional connectivity analyses. The results showed that major depressive disorder with childhood trauma and major depressive disorder without childhood trauma patients had distinct clinical and neurobiological profiles. Specific brain regions were found to be associated with childhood trauma and major depressive disorder. The severity of depression also acted as a moderator in the relationship between childhood trauma and abnormal brain activity.

Identifying Changes of Brain Regional Homogeneity and Cingulo-Opercular Network Connectivity in First-Episode, Drug-Naive Depressive Patients With Suicidal Ideation

Mengxin He et al.

Summary: This study investigated the alterations in the cingulo-opercular network (CON) that are closely related to suicidal ideation (SI) in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) using multi-imaging methods. The study found abnormal regional homogeneity (ReHo), gray matter volume (GMV), and structural covariance network (SCN) patterns in CON in MDD patients with SI, with the severity of suicide being associated with increased abnormal brain regions.

Emotional recognition training modifies neural response to emotional faces but does not improve mood in healthy volunteers with high levels of depressive symptoms

Ian S. Penton-Voak et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of emotion recognition CBM on neural activity and depressive symptoms through two double blind RCTs, revealing that CBM can induce changes in emotion recognition bias but has limited impact on improving depressive symptoms.

Functional network alterations differently associated with suicidal ideas and acts in depressed patients: an indirect support to the transition model

Gerd Wagner et al.

Summary: This study investigates the neural correlates of suicidal ideation and suicidal behavior, suggesting that suicide attempters exhibit distinct brain alterations compared to suicide ideators, patient controls, and healthy controls. The findings indirectly support the relevance of the transition model at the neurobiological level and highlight the need for further research on the brain bases of suicidal ideas in depressed individuals.

The Interaction Effects of Suicidal Ideation and Childhood Abuse on Brain Structure and Function in Major Depressive Disorder Patients

Wei Wang et al.

Summary: This study explored the interaction effects between suicidal ideation (SI) and childhood abuse on brain structure and function, revealing that SI and childhood abuse can impact brain structures in regions such as the cuneus, precuneus, paracentral lobule, inferior frontal gyrus, and caudate nucleus, with a significant interaction effect observed in the left caudate. Combining SI and childhood abuse based on imaging may provide insights into the development mechanism of suicide ideation and lead to more effective targeted prevention strategies for suicide prevention.
