Tracking Positive and Negative Affect in PTSD Inpatients During a Service Dog Intervention

Steven H. Woodward et al.

Summary: This study examined the effects of service dogs on the emotional well-being of 54 veterans suffering from PTSD. It found that the presence of a service dog was associated with reduced negative affect and increased positive affect, although these effects diminished over time. The results align with prior reports of reduced PTSD symptoms with service dog companionship, but also show a more complex relationship between positive affect and other factors.

The spatial distribution of eye movements predicts the (false) recognition of emotional facial expressions

Fanny Poncet et al.

Summary: Facial expressions of emotions play a crucial role in adapting to the social environment. This study investigated the impact of eye movements on facial emotion recognition, finding that both accurate and erroneous recognition were associated with key facial actions. Erroneous recognition was mainly linked to additional visual exploration of less relevant facial actions in regions with ambiguous or cross-emotion-relevant AU. Recognition of facial emotions from partial expressions demonstrated that effective communication of emotional states did not require single facial actions but relied on an integration of complex facial cues.

Visual Exploration and Observation of Real-Life Interactions Between Children with ASD and Service Dogs

Nicolas Dollion et al.

Summary: The two original studies examined the relationship between visual attention of children with ASD and their behaviors during the first interaction with a service dog. The findings suggest that the time spent looking at social items or objects during the interaction was associated with how children with ASD interacted with the service dog. Additionally, eye-tracking data revealed that children with ASD who looked more at their parent and the evaluator were more likely to interact with the service dog.

Associations between oxytocin and vasopressin concentrations, traumatic event exposure and posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms: group comparisons, correlations, and courses during an internet-based cognitive-behavioural treatment

Sinha Engel et al.

Summary: The study found that there were no significant differences in oxytocin and vasopressin levels between different groups, and they were not correlated with PTSD symptoms. PTSD symptoms showed high stability over time, while the endocrine parameters did not. Additionally, oxytocin and vasopressin were not associated with PTSD symptoms longitudinally.
