Nursing Student Medication Administration Practice in the Clinical Setting: A Descriptive Study

Summary: This study assessed the frequency and quality of nursing student medication administration practice in the clinical setting. The results showed that medication administration opportunities in the clinical setting are unpredictable and vary depending on the facility and nursing program policy.

Summary: Nurses perceive medication administration errors to be multifactorial, interconnected, and often stemming from systems issues. Multifactorial interventions are required to mitigate medication errors, with an emphasis on system changes. Findings from this review can guide efforts to identify and modify factors contributing to medication administration errors.
