Synergetic effect of adsorption-photocatalysis by GO-CeO2 nanocomposites for photodegradation of doxorubicin

Ali Abbasi et al.

Summary: The photodegradation of DOX can be effectively achieved by the synergy of adsorption and photocatalysis using graphene oxide-cerium oxide (GO-CeO2) nanocomposites. The synthesized GO-CeO2 nanocomposites showed high crystallinity, lower bandgap energy, and narrow particle size distribution. The removal of DOX was influenced by the pH of the solution, with neutral and alkaline conditions supporting the degradation process. The GO-CeO2 nanocomposites exhibited enhanced photocatalytic activity due to their lower bandgap energy and interfacial charge transfer. Moreover, the presence of co-existing ions and organic dyes also affected the removal efficiency of DOX.

Hydrothermal synthesis of Ce/Zr co-substituted BiFeO3: R3c-to-P4mm phase transition and enhanced room temperature ferromagnetism

Zahra Adineh et al.

Summary: A facile hydrothermal method was used to fabricate phase-pure multiferroic ferrites Bi1-xCexFe1-xZrxO3 (x = 0.00, 0.03, 0.06), and the dependence of structural, optical, and magnetic properties on the composition was investigated. Raman spectra showed a structural transition from rhombohedral to pseudo-tetragonal phase as the content of Ce/Zr increases, and an increase in optical bandgap with Ce/Zr co-substitution was observed. Magnetic properties indicated a transition from antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic phase due to the presence of the rhombohedral to tetragonal phase transition and exchange interaction between Ce3+/Ce4+ and Fe3+/Fe2+ orbitals.

Muhammad Ali Abbasi et al.

Summary: In this study, lanthanum substituted bismuth ferrite nanoparticles were found to efficiently adsorb doxorubicin (DOX) with a high adsorption efficiency of 93%, likely through electrostatic interaction and substantial diffusion mechanisms. The BFO nanoparticles showed good reusability, making them a cost-effective and eco-friendly solution for dealing with emerging organic contamination of water.

Geometry influenced adsorption of fluoxetine over the surface of RuFeO3 and CeFeO3 nanoparticles: Kinetics and thermodynamic studies

Jayanthi Narayanan et al.

Summary: Novel mesoporous ferrite nanoparticles (RuFeO3 and CeFeO3) were successfully fabricated by hydrothermal method for fluoxetine removal. The metal ferrites showed effective adsorption of fluoxetine (>99%) at neutral pH, with maximum adsorption capacities of 729.6 mg g(-1) for CeFeO3 and 683.5 mg g(-1) for RuFeO3. The adsorption process involved physical adsorption through intermolecular electrostatic force and was further confirmed by intra-particle diffusion model.

How porous periodicity of mesoporous materials like TiO2-SBA-15-10 encourages photocatalytic degradation of rhodamine B: a comparative study with aperiodic TiO2-SiO2-aerogel-10

Viviana Palos Barba et al.

Summary: In this study, new photocatalytic materials were discovered by dispersing TiO2 on two different siliceous mesoporous supports, SBA-15 and SiO2-aerogel-10. The TiO2-SBA-15-10 showed higher efficiency and enhanced adsorption capacity for the oxidation of rhodamine B dye compared to TiO2-SiO2-aerogel-10. The presence of Ti4+ in tetrahedral geometry in TiO2-SBA-15-10 was observed to be higher, explaining its improved photocatalytic performance.
