Heterogeneous diffusion with stochastic resetting

Trifce Sandev et al.

Summary: This article investigates a heterogeneous diffusion process (HDP) with position-dependent diffusion coefficient and Poissonian stochastic resetting, providing exact results for the mean squared displacement and the probability density function. The study includes the analysis of the nonequilibrium steady state reached in the long time limit and the identification of the large deviation function for the transition to the non-equilibrium steady state. Numerical solutions of the corresponding Langevin equation confirm the obtained results.

Number of distinct sites visited by a resetting random walker

Marco Biroli et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the number of distinct sites visited by resetting random walkers on a d-dimensional hypercubic lattice. We find that the recurrence-transience transition observed in standard random walks disappears with resetting, and we compute the crossover scaling function between different regimes in the limit of small resetting probability. Additionally, we derive the full distribution of visited sites in one dimension and introduce a new observable called imbalance to measure symmetry. Our theoretical results are verified through extensive numerical simulations.

Quantum unitary evolution interspersed with repeated non-unitary interactions at random times: the method of stochastic Liouville equation, and two examples of interactions in the context of a tight-binding chain

Debraj Das et al.

Summary: This study presents a general theoretical framework for describing the average behavior of a quantum system under non-unitary evolution and random interruptions. The study finds that, under certain interactions, particles can localize at specific positions and it is possible to suppress the temporal decay of the particle's probability through projection measurements.

Spatio-temporal dynamics of random transmission events: from information sharing to epidemic spread

Luca Giuggioli et al.

Summary: Random transmission events play a crucial role in natural and artificial systems, but quantifying these processes has been a challenge. This study overcomes these limitations by developing an analytic theory of transmission dynamics and demonstrates its wide applicability in various scenarios.

Optimal mean first-passage time of a Brownian searcher with resetting in one and two dimensions: experiments, theory and numerical tests

F. Faisant et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigates the optimal mean time for a Brownian particle to reach a target with resetting in one or two dimensions. Different resetting protocols were derived and tested, revealing a phase transition at a critical value, with calculations, experimental setup, and limitations discussed.

Backbone diffusion and first-passage dynamics in a comb structure with confining branches under stochastic resetting

R. K. Singh et al.

Summary: This study investigates the diffusive motion of a test particle in a two-dimensional comb structure with stochastic Markovian resetting. The crossover to the steady state is quantified using a large deviation function derived for comb structures for the first time. Additionally, the first-passage times along the backbone are explored, with calculations for the mean first-passage time and optimal resetting rate.

Search processes with stochastic resetting and partially absorbing targets

Ryan D. Schumm et al.

Summary: The theoretical framework studying search processes with stochastic resetting has been extended to partially absorbing targets. The mean first passage time for absorption depends on absorption rate kappa, resetting rate r, and target geometry. The optimal resetting rate for partially absorbing targets depends on target size and distance between the target and reset point.
