In Silico Identification and Experimental Validation of Peptide-Based Inhibitors Targeting Clostridium difficile Toxin A

Xingqing Xiao et al.

Summary: In this study, promising toxin A-targeting peptides were identified using a computational strategy that integrates peptide binding design algorithm and molecular dynamics simulation. These peptides may serve as potential inhibitors against C. difficile infection. In vitro experiments showed that phage-display peptide RP and in silico peptide NPA exhibit strong toxin-neutralizing properties, while in silico peptide NPB has relatively lower efficacy against TcdA.

De Novo Discovery of High-Affinity Peptide Binders for the SARS-CoV-2 Spike Protein

Sebastian Pomplun et al.

Summary: The research team used affinity selection-mass spectrometry to rapidly discover synthetic high-affinity peptide binders for the receptor binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. These findings serve as a starting point for the development of SARS-CoV-2 diagnostics or conjugates for virus-directed delivery of therapeutics.

Accelerated vaccine rollout is imperative to mitigate highly transmissible COVID-19 variants

Pratha Sah et al.

Summary: The emergence of more contagious variants of SARS-CoV-2 raises concerns about increased cases and severe outcomes. Accelerating vaccine distribution can significantly reduce severe outcomes, with increasing daily vaccine doses from 1 to 3 million having the potential to prevent a large number of hospitalizations and deaths for variants with higher transmissibility.
