Summary: The linearity range and sensitivity of the BCA total protein assay should be chosen based on specific needs and quality control, as expanding the range may lead to heavy negative biases at low protein concentrations.

Chemical Characterization and Quantification of Circulating Intact PTH and PTH Fragments by High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry in Chronic Renal Failure

Kittrawee Kritmetapak et al.

Summary: The LC-HRMS method identified full-length PTH1-84 and 8 PTH fragments in patients with progressive renal failure, showing significant increase as eGFR declined. PTH concentrations measured using LC-HRMS tended to be lower than those measured using an iPTH immunoassay, particularly in severe chronic renal failure. Circulating PTH7-84 and oxidized forms of PTH1-84 were not detected.

The path to the standardization of PTH: Is this a realistic possibility? a position paper of the IFCC C-BM

Etienne Cavalier et al.

Summary: Determining PTH levels is crucial for patients with parathyroid gland disorders and CKD for bone turnover monitoring. However, the lack of standardization in PTH assays on the market has led to confusion in CKD patient care. The IFCC Committee for Bone Metabolism aims to address and improve the variability in PTH testing methods.
