Hybrid Multi-Objective Optimization Approach in Water Flooding

Mohammed Al-Aghbari et al.

Summary: In this study, a data-driven optimization strategy based on the evolutionary neural network (EvoNN) algorithm is developed to provide input into the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm, second version (NSGA-II) optimization. The proposed strategy improves both the convergence and diversity of the Pareto optimal solutions obtained in two case studies. The hybridization of evolutionary optimization and data-driven modeling also leads to significant improvements in the water-oil ratio.

Well control optimization in waterflooding using genetic algorithm coupled with Artificial Neural Networks

Muhammad Gibran Alfarizi et al.

Summary: This paper proposes the use of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and genetic algorithm (GA) to maximize the net present value (NPV) in waterflooding operations. Experimental results show that this approach has low error and can find the optimal solution in a shorter time compared to traditional methods.

A Novel Combination of Whale Optimization Algorithm and Support Vector Machine with Different Kernel Functions for Prediction of Blasting-Induced Fly-Rock in Quarry Mines

Hoang Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study proposed a novel data-driven model for estimating fly-rock distance in bench blasting in open-pit mines using a combination of the whale optimization algorithm (WOA), support vector machine (SVM) and kernel functions. The WOA-SVM-RBF model showed the highest accuracy in predicting the fly-rock distance among all models investigated.

Summary: Efficient development of an oil field requires comprehensive optimization of subsurface flow. Multi-objective optimization approaches provide multiple optimum solutions for decision-making processes. Utilizing two different model-based algorithms, this study simultaneously plans short- and long-term production strategies in water-flooded reservoirs.

A Multisolution Optimization Framework for Well Placement and Control

Mohammad Salehian et al.

Summary: Field development and control optimization aims to maximize economic profit, and the proposed multisolution optimization framework allows operators to make optimal decisions considering operational constraints. By sequentially optimizing control variables at different levels, an ensemble of close-to-optimum solutions is selected, demonstrating the operational flexibility and efficiency of exploring the search space compared to traditional single-solution optimization approaches.

Experimental investigation, binary modelling and artificial neural network prediction of surfactant adsorption for enhanced oil recovery application

Ahmed F. Belhaj et al.

Summary: The study found that while APG surfactants have higher adsorption capacity compared to AEC, the Sips model was most suitable, indicating both monolayer and multilayer adsorption in a heterogeneous system. Surprisingly, in binary mixture prediction, AEC showed a greater affinity for adsorption sites than APG.

Safety, economics, environment and energy based criteria towards multi-objective optimization of natural gas sweetening process: An industrial case study

Debasish Tikadar et al.

Summary: In this study, multi-objective optimization was conducted on the methyl di-ethanolamine-based industrial natural gas sweetening process using an improved multi-objective differential evolutionary algorithm to enhance plant performance. The involvement of conflicting objectives allowed for the successful optimization of environmental, process safety, and economic objectives, resulting in Pareto-optimal solutions. The most influential operating variables were found to be the temperature and pressure of the feed gas, flow rate of the feed gas, and temperature of the regenerator.
