Characterizing Mass-Transfer mechanism during gas hydrate formation from water droplets

Huiyong Liang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the mass-transfer characteristics of water and guest molecules in dense hydrate structures during formation from water droplets. Experimental results showed time-dependent 3D morphologies and parameters of hydrate shells, revealing a transition in the water transport schema within hydrate shells from diffusion to permeation. The effective diffusion coefficients of gas and water molecules in hydrates were quantified, providing fundamental insights for optimizing hydrate-based techniques.

In situ experimental study on the effect of mixed inhibitors on the phase equilibrium of carbon dioxide hydrate

Yan Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of mixed inhibitors comprising electrolytes and alcohols on the thermodynamic properties of CO2 hydrate. Experimental results showed that the inhibition strength of the mixed inhibitor is significantly enhanced, sometimes even greater than the sum of its components, due to a synergistic effect. An improved vdWP model was proposed based on the results to predict hydrate stability conditions in CO2H2O-inhibitor solutions.

Influence of different proportion of CO2/N2 binary gas mixture on methane recovery through replacement processes in natural gas hydrates

Alberto Maria Gambelli et al.

Summary: This study investigates the thermodynamic and kinetic features of the methane replacement process using CO2-N-2 mixed gas. The results show that the conditions for hydrate formation in the mixed gas are gentler, with the lowest concentration of CO2 in the gaseous phase at a 50% CO2 concentration. The capture rate of N-2 and CO2 increases with decreasing N-2 concentration.

Analyses on CH4 and CO2 hydrate formation to define the optimal pressure for CO2 injection to maximize the replacement efficiency into natural gas hydrate in presence of a silica-based natural porous medium, via depressurization techniques

Alberto Maria Gambelli

Summary: This study demonstrated that conducting CO2 hydrate formation experiments starting at 40 bar pressure is the most effective solution, as it allows for a shorter formation time and reduces the required pressure drop. The more effective kinetic of the process and the negligible risk of methane hydrate re-formation make the 40 bar CO2 injection into the reservoir the best solution to optimize methane recovery, carbon dioxide storage, and seafloor deformations.

How methane release may affect carbon dioxide storage during replacement processes in natural gas hydrate reservoirs

Alberto Maria Gambelli et al.

Summary: In natural gas hydrate reservoirs, methane replacement with carbon dioxide molecules can occur through initial dissociation or direct exchange. Experimental results show that concentration can modify the formation trend, particularly in terms of carbon storage.

An experimental description of the double positive effect of CO2 injection in methane hydrate deposits in terms of climate change mitigation

Alberto Maria Gambelli

Summary: This paper investigates the possibility of injecting CO2 into a hydrate reservoir to prevent methane release. Results show that CO2 is capable of forming a strong hydrate shell around the methane core, preventing its dissociation, leading to both CO2 permanent storage and the prevention of methane release into the atmosphere.

Experimental investigation on the possibility of defining the feasibility of CO2/CH4 exchange into a natural gas hydrate marine reservoir via fast analysis of sediment properties

Alberto Maria Gambelli et al.

Summary: This study investigated the formation of methane hydrate and carbon dioxide hydrate in the presence of two different types of sand simulating seabeds. It was found that the specific characteristics of the seabed, particularly the composition of the sand, significantly influenced the replacement process of CO2/CH4. Sand TS-2 was shown to act as a kinetic and thermodynamic inhibitor for methane hydrate formation while promoting CO2 hydrate formation, making it a strong ally for improving replacement efficiency.

Methane and carbon dioxide hydrates properties in presence of Inconel 718 particles: Analyses on its potential application in gas separation processes to perform efficiency improvement

Alberto Maria Gambelli et al.

Summary: This study explored the use of Inconel 718 material commonly used in additive manufacturing for hydrate production, finding that it promoted methane hydrate formation and inhibited carbon dioxide hydrate formation. The research showed that under specific temperature and indium concentration conditions, CO2 molecules required higher pressure to form hydrates, which could be utilized to improve the efficiency of CO2/CH4 mixture separation.
