Electrophotocatalytic C-H Heterofunctionalization of Arenes

He Huang et al.

Summary: The study describes electrophotocatalytic heterofunctionalization of arenes with high chemoselectivity, using 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyanoquinone (DDQ) under a mild electrochemical potential and visible-light irradiation. In addition to batch reactions, an electrophotocatalytic recirculating flow process is demonstrated, enabling the conversion of benzene to phenol on a gram scale.

Catalytic SNAr Hydroxylation and Alkoxylation of Aryl Fluorides

Qi-Kai Kang et al.

Summary: A reliable method for accessing phenols and phenyl alkyl ethers via catalytic SNAr reactions has been established in this study, applicable to a broad array of electron-rich and neutral aryl fluorides. Experimental data supporting the mechanism of SNAr reactions are still under exploration, with mechanistic studies and DFT calculations suggesting a stepwise or stepwise-like energy profile. Notably, a rhodium eta(5)-cyclohexadienyl complex intermediate has been isolated with an sp(3)-hybridized carbon bearing both a nucleophile and a leaving group.

Selective synthesis of sulfoxides and sulfones via controllable oxidation of sulfides with N-fluorobenzenesulfonimide

Xiaobo Xu et al.

Summary: A practical and mild method for the switchable synthesis of sulfoxides or sulfones via selective oxidation of sulfides using cheap NFSI as the oxidant has been developed. These transformations were achieved by varying the NFSI loading with H2O as the green solvent and oxygen source without any additives, showcasing good functional group tolerance.

The selective synthesis of N-arylbenzene-1,2-diamines or 1-arylbenzimidazoles by irradiating 4-methoxy-4′-substituted-azobenzenes in different solvents

Po-Yi Chen et al.

Summary: The solvent-controllable photoreaction of 4-methoxyazobenzenes to afford different products has been studied, with N-2-aryl-4-methoxybenzene-1,2-diamines and 1-aryl-6-methoxy-2-methyl-1H-benzimidazoles being the major products under different conditions. The possible reaction mechanism explaining the selectivity was also discussed.
