Mesogens with aggregation-induced emission properties: Materials with a bright future

Jens Voskuhl et al.

Summary: In recent years, significant progress has been made in the field of AIE-active liquid crystals, demonstrating the potential applications of these materials. Currently, there are three main approaches to obtain luminescent liquid crystals, which will be described and discussed in detail in this review.

Light-Controlled Precise Delivery of NIR-Responsive Semiconducting Polymer Nanoparticles with Promoted Vascular Permeability

Weizhi Qi et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that near-infrared (NIR) laser pulses can transiently enhance the delivery of semiconducting polymer nanoparticles through the endothelial barrier, allowing for selective and substantial accumulation of the nanoparticles in specific tissues. The light-controlled nanoparticle delivery method shows a significantly higher transfer efficiency in solid tumors compared to the current enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect.

Molecular mechanism of aggregation-induced emission

Qian Peng et al.

Summary: Understanding the luminescence mechanism is crucial for the development of AIE materials. Weak intermolecular excitonic coupling in AIEgens challenges conventional models, leading to new theoretical proposals. Multiscale computational approaches provide insights into radiative and nonradiative decay processes, offering potential for predicting molecular design.

Pyrene-based aggregation-induced emission luminogens (AIEgens) with less colour migration for anti-counterfeiting applications

Xiaohui Wang et al.

Summary: The study presents a set of pyrene-based AIEgens with high thermal stability, excellent fluorescence properties, and good biocompatibility for use in fluorescent inks for anti-counterfeiting applications. These fluorescent inks avoid the aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) effect and exhibit good printability on different printing substrates, extending the application range from ultralow to high concentration.

Aggregation-induced emission materials for nonlinear optics

Xiao Han et al.

Summary: AIE is a vital photophysical phenomenon that resolves the aggregation-caused quenching in traditional luminophores, leading to advanced performances and enormous potential applications. The combination of AIE and NLO effects has nurtured unforeseen properties of AIE materials and extended their application spheres, driving research interests in the NLO regime.

Triphenylamine/benzothiadiazole-based compounds for non-doped orange and red fluorescent OLEDs with high efficiencies and low efficiency roll-off

Di Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, four novel donor-acceptor compounds were designed and synthesized for non-doped OLEDs, showing excellent performance in terms of maximum luminance, current efficiency, and maximum EQE. The use of BT and TPA-based D-A architectures proved to be effective in obtaining outstanding orange and red emitters.

An easily synthesized AIE luminogen for lipid droplet-specific super-resolution imaging and two-photon imaging

Yanzi Xu et al.

Summary: An imaging platform of DTPA-BT-M with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) characteristics was developed for lipid droplets (LDs)-specific super-resolution cellular imaging and deep-penetrated tissue imaging. DTPA-BT-M showed superior fluorescence properties and a high photoluminescence quantum yield, allowing for ultra-high resolution imaging of LDs via STED nanoscopy and deep tissue penetration in BALB/C nude mice lung tissue via TPF microscopy.
