Crystalline sulfamate salts of glycine, sarcosine, and dimethylglycine were characterized and compared with the known salt of betaine. The compounds showed different symmetry and structural properties.
Crystalline sulfamate salts of glycine (GlyH center dot center dot center dot Gly)(NH2SO3) (I), sarcosine (SarH center dot center dot center dot Sar)(NH2SO3) (II) and dimethylglycine (DMGH center dot center dot center dot DMG)(NH2SO3)center dot H2O (III) with dimeric cations, obtained from aqueous solutions, were structurally and spectroscopically characterized and further compared with the previously known salt of betaine (Bet center dot center dot center dot H center dot center dot center dot Bet)(NH2SO3). Compounds (I) and (II) crystallize in polar symmetry (space groups Pn and Pna2(1), respectively), while the salt (III) and that of betaine are centrosymmetric (space group settings P2(1)/n and P2(1)/c , respectively).
