Amplifying Free Radical Generation of AIE Photosensitizer with Small Singlet-Triplet Splitting for Hypoxia-Overcoming Photodynamic Therapy

Ya-Fang Xiao et al.

Summary: This study develops two phenanthro[9,10-d]imidazole derivatives, AQPO and AQPI, with aggregation-induced emission characteristics, and enhances their reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation efficiency by reducing singlet-triplet splitting. The results demonstrate that AQPO exhibits higher type-I ROS generation capacity compared to AQPI, and effectively eliminates tumor cells in vitro and in vivo with good biosafety.

New donor-p-acceptor AIEgens: Influence of p bridge on luminescence properties and electroluminescence application

Yongyan Zhou et al.

Summary: Aggregation-induced emission (AIE) offers a solution to harvest strong solid-state fluorescence, which is crucial to achieving efficient organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). In this study, two novel AIE luminogens (AIEgens) were designed by integrating the advantages of triphenylamine (TPA) and phenanthroimidazole (PI), which exhibited excellent electron-donating ability of TPA and bipolar characteristics and suitable carrier transporting ability of PI. The ratio of intramolecular and intermolecular charge transfer can be controlled to achieve emission adjustability. A non-doped OLED based on one of the AIEgens demonstrated high external quantum efficiency and low turn-on voltage, showing great potential for OLED applications.

Anthracene-based fluorescent emitters toward superior-efficiency nondoped TTA-OLEDs with deep blue emission and low efficiency roll-off

Longjiang Xing et al.

Summary: Three new anthracene-based emitters were developed for deep blue OLEDs, demonstrating highly twisted molecular configurations that lead to deep-blue light emission by restricting pi-conjugation extension. The molecular packing manner may influence photoluminescence quantum yields in solid state and the singlet exciton harvested by triplet-triplet annihilation process. A nondoped device using DPF-AnCN as emitter achieved an external quantum efficiency of 7.1% with insignificant efficiency roll-off, approaching standard blue index.
