Experimental and theoretical investigation of the catalytic performance of reduced Schiff base and Schiff base iron complexes: Transformation to magnetically retrievable catalyst

Rimpa Mondal et al.

Summary: The catalytic efficiencies of a mononuclear Schiff base iron complex (FeL) and a reduced Schiff base one (FeRL) for the oxidation of alcohols have been assessed experimentally and theoretically. FeRL showed superior performance over FeL, attributed to the higher stability of the Fe-V=O species characterized through density functional theory calculations. FDFeRL, derived from FeRL for surface modification of magnetite nanoparticles, exhibited excellent catalytic activity in alcohol oxidation and could be easily recovered and reused with the help of a magnet.

Synthesis, experimental, and computational studies of water soluble anthranilic organoselenium compounds as safe corrosion inhibitors for J55 pipeline steel in acidic oilfield formation water

Hany M. Abd El-Lateef et al.

Summary: This study investigated the corrosion protection properties of two water-soluble organoselenium compounds based on anthranilic acid for J55 steel in simulated acidic oilfield formation water. The results showed that the diselenide-based anthranilic acid AnSe-SeAn exhibited higher protection capacity compared to the selenocyanate analog AnSe, with protection efficacy increasing in a concentration-dependent manner. Surface morphology inspections confirmed the formation of a protective film on the steel surface, shielding it from corrosion at the optimal dose. Computational studies were also conducted to identify the active sites on the molecules responsible for adsorption and protection of the steel surface.
