Liquid-Liquid Equilibrium of Alcohol-Ester Systems with Deep Eutectic Solvents Based on Choline Chloride and Alkanediols (Ethylene Glycol or Propylene Glycol)

Artemiy Samarov et al.

Summary: This study investigated the application of deep eutectic solvents (DESs) formed by choline chloride and ethylene glycol or propylene glycol in the separation of azeotropic mixtures containing alcohols and acetates. Experimental data were obtained and analyzed to determine liquid-liquid equilibrium compositions, as well as liquid density and dynamic viscosity of DESs. The separation efficiency of DESs was characterized using distribution coefficients and selectivity values. A comparison with other DESs showed promising results.

Design and control of an energy-efficient triple-column pressure swing distillation configuration for separation of acetone-methanol-hexane mixture

Tan Akinciturk et al.

Summary: In this study, two alternative triple-column pressure swing distillation (PSD) configurations were proposed for a ternary mixture, and the total annual cost was analyzed based on ternary maps at different pressures. The results showed that the methanol-acetone-hexane (M-A-H) separation sequence with a column configuration operating at 0.5, 1, and 5 bar had better economic performance, and the fully heat-integrated M-A-H configuration further saved costs.

Liquid-Liquid Equilibria for Binary Azeotrope Mixtures of Heptaneand Amyl Alcohols Using Different Choline Chloride Based DeepEutectic Solvents at 298.15 K

Ali Ghanadzadeh Gilani et al.

Summary: Liquid-liquid equilibrium study was conducted on eight ternary systems containing binary azeotrope mixtures and deep eutectic solvents. The influence of the constituent components' structure on phase equilibria was systematically analyzed. Four choline chloride based deep eutectic solvents were synthesized for the separation of amyl alcohols from n-heptane. The study evaluated the performance of the studied deep eutectic solvents using distribution coefficients and separation factors.

Improving the separation of guaiacol from n-hexane by adding choline chloride to glycol extracting agents

Andres F. Arroyo-Avirama et al.

Summary: Bio-oil, derived from renewable sources, is a promising candidate to replace oil-derived products. This study investigates the extraction of guaiacol, an important lignin derivative, from alkanes using glycols and their eutectic mixtures. The results show that the eutectic mixtures have higher selectivity and larger miscibility gaps with the n-hexane phase than the studied glycols, making them more effective in extracting guaiacol.

Highly efficient extraction of indole from model wash oil by using environmentally benign deep eutectic solvents

Xudong Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the extraction of indole from wash oil using deep eutectic solvents (DESs). TPAC/EG showed the highest extraction ability among the five DESs tested. By optimizing the experimental parameters, the extraction efficiency and purity of indole were significantly improved. In addition, a water-based regeneration method for DES was explored, demonstrating the reusability of DES.

Impact of deep eutectic solvents and their constituents on the aqueous solubility of phloroglucinol dihydrate

Nicolas F. Gajardo-Parra et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the potential benefits of deep eutectic solvents for the solubility of phloroglucinol, particularly showing higher solubility in water + ChCl + HBD mixtures. The solubility prediction with PC-SAFT is in quantitative agreement with experimental data for phloroglucinol dihydrate.

Extraction of Chlorophylls and Carotenoids from Microalgae: COSMO-SAC-Assisted Solvent Screening

Allan Valcareggi Morcelli et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the efficiency of ethanol, acetone, ethyl acetate, and hexane for extracting pigments from microalgae, with ethanol showing the highest efficiency in recovering chlorophylls and acetone as an efficient solvent for extracting violaxanthin, lutein, zeaxanthin, and carotene. The Conductor-like screening model for real solvent segment activity (COSMO-SAC) was found to be a valuable tool in screening solvents for extraction processes.

Extractive and Auto-Extractive Distillation of Azeotropic Mixtures

Alla Frolkova et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of the solvent and acetone content in the original mixture on the operating parameters of the columns for extractive distillation and auto-extractive distillation for the first time. It was found that the presence of an entrainer in the original mixture reduces the amount of solvent needed to separate the mixture, the reflux ratio, and the total energy consumption of the process.

Separation of ethanol azeotropic mixture using deep eutectic solvents in liquid- liquid extraction process

Farzad Sharepour et al.

Summary: In this study, three deep eutectic solvents (DES) were prepared and used for the separation of ethanol-hexane azeotropic mixture for the first time. The study showed that the prepared DESs were more efficient than using ionic liquids and DESs by previous investigators. The distribution coefficient and selectivity values of ethanol were significantly higher than unity at all concentration ranges for the DESs.
