Effect of immobilizing ionic liquid on amine-functionalized MIL-101(Cr) incorporated in Matrimid membranes for CO2/CH4 separation

Hajar Rajati et al.

Summary: Immobilizing an ionic liquid on a metal-organic framework is proposed as a novel approach to improve gas permeability and selectivity in CO2/CH4 separation. The resulting mixed matrix membranes showed increased CO2 permeability and selectivity, decreased plasticization pressure, and enhanced mechanical properties compared to pristine Matrimid membrane.

Task-Specific Ionic Liquids Tuning ZIF-67/PIM-1 Mixed Matrix Membranes for Efficient CO2 Separation

Jiuli Han et al.

Summary: Ionic liquids (ILs) are attractive for CO2 separation membranes due to their designable structure, high CO2 affinity, and good compatibility and stability. Incorporating task-specific ionic liquids (TSILs) into metal-organic framework membranes can enhance CO2 separation performance, improving the membrane's affinity and compatibility, leading to higher CO2 selectivity.

Preparation of Amino-Functional UiO-66/PIMs Mixed Matrix Membranes with [bmim][Tf2N] as Regulator for Enhanced Gas Separation

Jiangfeng Lu et al.

Summary: Development of mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) with excellent permeance and selectivity for gas separation has garnered global attention. By incorporating ionic liquid (IL)-modified UiO-66-NH2 filler into microporous organic polymer material (PIM-1), researchers have successfully prepared dense and defect-free MMMs. The IL not only enhances the hydrophobicity of the filler and promotes better dispersion into the matrix, but also reduces non-selective defects at the interface, improving overall membrane performance.

Coordinate covalent grafted ILs-modified MIL-101/PEBA membrane for pervaporation: Adsorption simulation and separation characteristics

Ao-Shuai Zhang et al.

Summary: High porosity and large pore volume of MIL-101 MOF make it a potential material for membrane separation technology. By incorporating ILs within the cages and over the surface of MIL-101, the pore structure and surface properties were successfully tuned, leading to outstanding separation performance in mixed matrix membranes (MMMs). This study may inspire the design of high-performance MMMs by modifying porous nanomaterial microstructure.
