Independent gradient model based on Hirshfeld partition: A new method for visual study of interactions in chemical systems

Tian Lu et al.

Summary: The powerful independent gradient model (IGM) method has limitations in graphically studying weak interactions. In this article, an improved version of IGM, called IGM based on Hirshfeld partition (IGMH), is proposed to overcome the shortcomings. The rigorous physical background of IGMH is demonstrated through various application examples, showcasing its important value in intuitively understanding interactions in chemical systems.

Novel chromene-derived fluorescent probe for detection of cyanides by imine-controlled ESIPT

Tingting Zhu et al.

Summary: A novel chromene-derived fluorescent probe was developed with a unique ESIPT mechanism for sensing cyanides in aqueous environments with high selectivity and sensitivity. The probe's structure changes under cyanide induction, and test strips based on this probe were successfully fabricated for practical cyanide detection. This probe also shows great potential for cyanide detection in food samples such as cassava flour and bitter almonds.

Madhu Babu Kanakala et al.

Summary: This study reports the synthesis, characterization, and ESIPT activity of a series of novel ESIPT Col LCs, showcasing their fluorescence properties in different phases. Additionally, the redox activity, metal ion sensing ability, and solvatochromism of the mesogens were investigated. The ESIPT Col LCs with a band-gap of about 3 eV exhibit electronic characteristics falling between conventional semiconductors and insulators.

1′-hydroxy-2′-acetonaphthone: A simple fluorescence turn-on signaling probe with high selectivity and sensitivity for Al3+ in pure water

Jaya Malini et al.

Summary: A highly selective and sensitive fluorescence turn-on sensor for Al3+ detection in pure water using 1'-hydroxy-2'-acetonaphthone (HAN) as a probe has been developed, showing remarkable fluorescence enhancement and efficient response towards Al3+ even in tap water. The huge fluorescence enhancement is attributed to the chelation enhanced fluorescence (CHEF) effect, which impedes the interconversion process between keto (K*) and twisted keto (KR*) tautomers of HAN during its ESIPT process, leading to the complete tautomeric arrest of KR* form complexed with Al3+.
