Preconcentrations of Zn(II) and Hg(II) in Environmental and Food Samples by SPE on B. licheniformis Loaded Amberlite XAD-4

Sadin Ozdemir et al.

Summary: In this study, the separations and preconcentrations of Zn(II) and Hg(II) ions using Bacillus licheniformis on Amberlite XAD-4 resin by solid-phase extraction were performed. The biosorbent showed ideal selectivity for Zn(II) and Hg(II) biosorption with detection limits of 0.03 and 0.06 ng-mL(-1) respectively. The method demonstrated good sensitivity and selectivity in sample pre-treatment.

Chemical fractions of toxic metals and assessment of risks on the environment and health in Mugla topsoils

A. Demirak et al.

Summary: The study found that total concentrations of Cd in topsoil samples were uniformly distributed throughout the center of Mugla, but the chemical fractions of Cd and Pb varied greatly at each location. While Cd could pose a serious risk in terms of contamination and environmental factors, it did not present a health risk to humans. Pb, on the other hand, showed no risk in terms of contamination but did exceed international soil quality guidelines in some samples.

Microstructure, mechanical and electrochemical properties of Ti3AlC2 coatings prepared by filtered cathode vacuum arc technology

Hao Li et al.

Summary: Ti3AlC2 coatings were prepared by a two-step method and their properties were investigated. The formation of Ti3AlC2 phase in the annealed coating depended on the C2H2 flow rate during deposition. The hardness of the coatings increased with the increase of Ti3AlC2 phase, while the corrosion resistance had an optimal C2H2 flow rate.

Development of clinoptilolite zeolite-coated magnetic nanocomposite-based solid phase microextraction method for the determination of Rhodamine B in cosmetic products

Aslihan Dalmaz et al.

Summary: In this study, a green synthesis method was successfully used to prepare a clinoptilolite zeolite/Fe3O4 nanocomposite using Laurus Nobilis L. leaf extract. A new method based on solid phase microextraction (SPME) combined with high performance liquid chromatography was developed for the extraction and determination of Rhodamine B. The results showed that the method had high selectivity, sensitivity, and recovery, and was suitable for the determination of Rhodamine B in cosmetic samples.

Sperm Quality Affected by Naturally Occurring Chemical Elements in Bull Seminal Plasma

Filip Tirpak et al.

Summary: This study monitored the chemical and biochemical composition of bovine seminal plasma and correlated it with sperm quality parameters. The results showed that seminal Fe has beneficial effects on sperm motility, while Mg has beneficial effects on sperm velocity and viability. On the contrary, negative correlations were observed between Zn and sperm velocity, as well as between seminal cholesterol content and motility. These findings suggest that seminal plasma has the potential to serve as a potential biomarker for bull reproductive health.

Determination of some heavy metals from aqueous solutions using modified Amberlite XAD-4 resin by selective solid-phase extraction

Sevgi Kocaoba

Summary: The adsorption efficiency of Pb(II) and Cd(II) from aqueous solutions using m-phenylenediamine-modified Amberlite XAD-4 resin was investigated. The impact of various factors such as pH, adsorbent amount, initial metal concentration, eluent type and volume, and flow rate on the retention of the metal ions was studied through column studies. The optimal conditions for quantitative adsorption were found to be pH 5, 10 mg/L concentration, 30 minutes stirring time, 0.2 g adsorbent amount, and 2.5 mL/min flow rate. The sorption data fit well with both the Langmuir and Freundlich equations, and the resin showed high metal adsorption capacity and satisfactory recovery of Pb(II) and Cd(II).
