Burnout of the US midwifery workforce and the role of practice environment

Summary: The study found that the prevalence of burnout among midwives in the United States is high, with 40.6% meeting the criteria for burnout. The practice environment, particularly practice leadership, participation, and support for the midwifery model of care, was found to be a key driver of burnout. Structural and personal characteristics had less impact on burnout scores compared to the practice environment.

Pregnant women with symptomatic Covid-19 may face more severe outcomes, but transmission during delivery or through breastmilk is unlikely. The pandemic has also led to increased mental health issues, domestic violence, decreased prenatal care visits, and greater socio-economic consequences for pregnant individuals.

Utilization of Women's Preventive Health Services During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Summary: This cross-sectional study examined the utilization of women's preventive health services during the COVID-19 pandemic among commercially insured women. The study found significant declines in breast cancer screening, cervical cancer screening, sexually transmitted infection screening, and prescriptions for contraceptives in 2020 compared to 2019, with even larger declines in areas with lower income and higher proportions of non-White and non-English-speaking residents. The results suggest that the pandemic has disrupted access to women's preventive health services and led to increased disparities in utilization.
