Regional variation in COVID-19 disparities: connections with immigrant and Latinx communities in US counties

Kate Strully et al.

Summary: This study found that the percentage of foreign-born residents is positively associated with COVID-19 case rate. Adjusted associations for the percentage of Latinx residents are nonsignificant for all counties combined, obscuring heterogeneity. In the Northeast and Midwest, counties with a higher proportion of Puerto Rican residents have higher COVID-19 case rates, while the association with the percentage of Asian residents is nonsignificant after adjusting for the percentage of foreign-born residents. Additionally, the percentage of Black residents is positively and robustly associated with COVID-19 case rate.
