Machine learning-based predictive modeling to identify genotypic traits associated with Salmonella enterica disease endpoints in isolates from ground chicken

Collins K. Tanui et al.

Summary: This study used machine learning algorithms to predict disease endpoints in untagged Salmonella genome sequences isolated from ground chicken. A semi-supervised random forest model showed the highest overall accuracy and could be used as features in future predictive modeling endeavors. The approach could be useful in various areas of food safety.

Classification of Salmonella enterica of the (Para-)Typhoid Fever Group by Fourier-Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy

Miriam Cordovana et al.

Summary: Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIRS) is a promising technology for rapid and reliable differentiation of typhoidal and para-typhoidal Salmonella. After testing 359 isolates, specific automated classifiers built based on artificial neural networks achieved high accuracy rates ranging from 99.9% to 87.0% for different serogroups, demonstrating the potential of IR biotyping for surveillance and diagnostic purposes.

Utilizing the Microbiota and Machine Learning Algorithms To Assess Risk of Salmonella Contamination in Poultry Rinsate

Hannah Bolinger et al.

Summary: The study explores the use of machine learning to predict the presence of Salmonella in poultry samples based on microbiome data. Prechill samples showed higher positivity and greater microbial diversity, with chilling significantly affecting the number of genera. By training various machine learning models, the study achieved successful prediction of Salmonella presence, showing potential for novel food safety approaches.
