Birth outcomes between 22 and 26 weeks' gestation in national population-based cohorts from Sweden, England and France

Andrei S. Morgan et al.

Summary: Differences in survival and morbidity outcomes for extremely preterm births are evident despite adjustment for background characteristics. No clear relationship was identified between early mortality and later patterns of morbidity.

Temporal trends in respiratory care and bronchopulmonary dysplasia in very preterm infants over a 10-year period in Spain

Alejandro Avila-Alvarez et al.

Summary: A national survey conducted in Spain between 2010 and 2019 evaluated trends in respiratory care practices and bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) among very preterm infants. Despite an increase in the use of non-invasive ventilation, the BPD-free survival did not improve and even worsened in the lowest gestational age group.

Outcomes of a uniformly active approach to infants born at 22-24 weeks of gestation

Fanny Soderstrom et al.

Summary: This study found that an actively managed approach to extremely preterm infants in a center resulted in similar survival rates for infants born at 22-24 weeks gestation, with over 50% survival even at 22 weeks. The majority of infants were neurologically normal at 2.5 years, suggesting that this approach did not lead to higher rates of long-term adverse neurological outcomes.

Inter-center variability in neonatal outcomes of preterm infants: A longitudinal evaluation of 298 neonatal units in 11 countries

Summary: Collaboration and cooperation among clinicians and neonatal units are crucial for improving neonatal outcomes. Assessing network performance by comparing outcomes across different centers can help identify areas for improvement and provide useful macro-level evaluations for healthcare professionals and policymakers.
