Simplifying Molecular Transport in Polyelectrolyte Multilayer Thin Films

Suman Pahal et al.

Summary: This article discusses the matrix properties and molecular diffusion in polyelectrolyte multilayer thin films (PEM), highlighting different strategies to promote or suppress diffusivity within the PEM. It uncovers guiding principles for understanding molecular transport on the surface and across the bulk of the PEM matrix, which can contribute to the design of desirable PEM assembly structures. Understanding molecular diffusivity at nano and micro scales within PEM stacks will aid in designing superior host materials for biomedical engineering applications.
