Comparing corrosion behavior of additively manufactured Cr-rich stainless steel coating between conventional and extreme high-speed laser metal deposition

Xiang Xu et al.

Summary: This study provides a detailed comparison of the corrosion behavior and microstructural features of Cr-rich stainless steel coatings manufactured by conventional laser metal deposition and extreme high-speed laser metal deposition. The results indicate that the EHLMD coating exhibits superior corrosion resistance compared to the CLMD coating, attributed to the differences in microstructure characteristics of the coatings prepared by the two additive manufacturing processes.

Marine bacteria inhibit corrosion of steel via synergistic biomineralization

Na Guo et al.

Summary: This study introduced an environmental approach to protect steels from corrosion in a multi-species bacterial environment via synergistic biomineralization. The mixed bacteria generated a more compact and protective film compared to single bacteria. Different bacterial groups exhibited different synergistic mechanisms, such as increasing pH, secreting carbonic anhydrase, and inhibiting corrosive bacteria through growth advantage.

Marine Biofilms with Significant Corrosion Inhibition Performance by Secreting Extracellular Polymeric Substances

Zhong Li et al.

Summary: Utilizing biofilms isolated from local environments for corrosion protection of carbon steels in the marine environment has been shown to be an effective strategy. The corrosion inhibitory effect of bacteria was found to be closely related to their biofilmforming abilities, with secreted extracellular polymeric substances playing significant roles in corrosion inhibition. This study proposed a novel, eco-friendly, and cost-effective method for identifying corrosion inhibitory bacteria and protecting carbon steels in marine environments.

Early corrosion behavior of X80 pipeline steel in a simulated soil solution containing Desulfovibrio desulfuricans

Yuxing Fan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the corrosion behavior of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) on steel without organic carbon source in simulated soil solution, finding that SRB can survive for a period without organic carbon but affects corrosion rates. It was also observed that the presence of dissolved oxygen (DO) influences the corrosion process.

The differences in the corrosion product compositions of Methanogen-induced microbiologically influenced corrosion (Mi-MIC) between static and dynamic growth conditions

Biwen Annie An et al.

Summary: The corrosive potential of methanogen-induced microbiologically influenced corrosion on carbon steel is not suitable for determining through static-incubations, as higher corrosion rates were observed using a multiport-flow-column. Contrary to previous data, the corrosion products contain various elements but lack carbon-related species, and the disruption of siderite nucleation by methanogens results in increased localized corrosion.

Stainless steel corrosion via direct iron-to-microbe electron transfer by Geobacter species

Hai-Yan Tang et al.

Summary: This study found that the mechanism of microbial corrosion of stainless steel is significantly different from that of pure iron. Unlike in the corrosion of pure iron, H-2 is not abiotically produced from stainless steel during microbial corrosion, and direct iron-to-microbe electron transfer is a feasible route for stainless steel corrosion.
