Revealing the decomposition mechanisms of dislocations and metastable α′ phase and their effects on mechanical properties in a Ti-6Al-4V alloy

Jinlong Su et al.

Summary: (English Summary:) This study investigates the influence of different cooling methods on the microstructure and dislocation characteristics of Ti-6Al-4V alloy and reveals the decomposition mechanisms of dislocations and metastable alpha' phase and their impact on mechanical properties. The results show that the characteristics of alpha' phase and dislocation density are significantly influenced by the cooling methods. During stabilization annealing treatments, dislocations decompose simultaneously. The decomposition of dislocations and metastable alpha' phase, as well as the formation of specific microstructures during quenching, have a significant influence on the properties of Ti-6Al-4V alloy.

Tailoring the deformation characteristics of commercial purity titanium through hot deformation of a martensitic microstructure

Qi Chao et al.

Summary: In this study, a new method was established to control the grain refinement, texture, and deformation anisotropy of commercial purity titanium through hot working of a martensitic starting microstructure. The unique deformation behavior obtained was mainly attributed to the microstructure and texture formed through the martensitic transformation, which altered the activation of slip systems, grain refinement kinetics, and texture development during hot deformation.

Investigation on the deformation mechanism of Ti-5Al-2.5Sn ELI titanium alloy at cryogenic and room temperatures

Zichuan Lu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the influence of temperature on the mechanical properties of Ti-5Al-2.5Sn ELI titanium alloy through tensile tests conducted at temperatures ranging from 20 K to 300 K. The experimental results showed that the alloy exhibited different deformation behaviors at room temperature and cryogenic temperature, with twinning deformation significantly improving the plastic deformation capacity at low temperatures. Additionally, the presence of a large number of dislocation structures contributed to enhancing the ultimate tensile strength of the alloy under cryogenic conditions.
