Solidification of heavy metals in lead smelting slag and development of cementitious materials

Zhongzhong Zhao et al.

Summary: This study explores the effects of different particle sizes of lead smelting slag (LSS) on the compressive strength of cementitious materials. The results show that decreasing the particle size can significantly improve the compressive strength of the materials, especially in the early stage. Analysis of LSS with different particle sizes reveals that decreasing the particle size increases the specific surface areas and decreases the degree of crystallinity. Microscopic analysis of the cementitious materials indicates that decreasing the particle size enhances the degree of reaction and gelation, resulting in a denser structure.

Tunable Co/ZnO/C@MWCNTs based on carbon nanotube-coated MOF with excellent microwave absorption properties

Zirui Jia et al.

Summary: The development of global information technology has led to increased electromagnetic radiation in the surrounding environment, creating a need for high-performance electromagnetic wave absorbers to eliminate electromagnetic pollution. This study presents a method to prepare Co/ZnO/C@MWCNTs composites with excellent electromagnetic loss capability. Experimental results show that at low sample content, the composites exhibit impressive reflection loss and absorption bandwidth.

Comparative study on corrosion behavior of WC-MgO composite and WC-6Co cemented carbide in NaCl solution

Bowen Fan et al.

Summary: The study shows that WC-MgO composite has higher corrosion resistance than WC-6Co cemented carbide, mainly due to the dense and flat WO3 passive film that can protect inner material successfully. The corrosion products of WC-6Co cemented carbide are porous and cannot provide effective protection, which is different from the corrosion mechanism of WC-MgO composite.

Grain growth behaviour and mechanical properties of coarse-grained cemented carbides with bimodal grain size distributions

Rengui He et al.

Summary: The study reveals that adjusting the WC grain size distribution by adding ultrafine WC and coarse WC can significantly impact the grain growth morphology of cemented carbides. Hardness and fracture toughness tests demonstrate that alloys containing 6 wt% ultrafine WC exhibit the best mechanical properties.

Summary: The study successfully controlled the WC-Co two-phase microstructures through LPBF process, with post heat-treatment eliminating defects. Addition of carbon prevented the formation of W3Co3C phase, but reduced the hardness of the samples after heat treatment.

Summary: The study analyzed the impact of carbon content on the properties and microstructure of alloys, finding that the WC coarsening process was controlled by 2-D nucleation in low carbon content alloys, while in high carbon content alloys, the dissolution-precipitation process in the Co binder accelerated, leading to changes in WC particle morphology and grain size.

Effect of solute elements (Cr, Mo, Fe, Co) on the adhesion properties of WC/Ni-based binder interface: A first-principles study

Kelong Lu et al.

Summary: The adhesion properties of WC/Ni interfaces were studied using first-principles method, showing that solute atoms and distribution of electronegative atoms in multi-element Ni-based binders significantly influenced the adhesion strength. Results indicated that metallic bonding was dominant in the WC/Ni interfaces, and Ni atoms played a key role in the adhesion properties, while Cr and Co atoms' distribution had a more obvious impact on WC/NiCrMoFeCo interfaces.
