Influence of laser shock peening on surface integrity and tensile property of high strength low alloy steel

Yong Wang et al.

Summary: Laser Shock Peening (LSP) is an effective surface treatment technique commonly used to improve mechanical properties of materials. This study on high strength low alloy steel revealed that LSP did not change the tensile strength but transformed the yield characteristic, leading to improved fatigue life. The deeper compressive residual stress and flat grains induced by LSP were identified as contributing factors to these changes in material properties.

Summary: In this study, laser shock peening (LSP) was used to improve the microhardness and introduce compressive residual stresses in SiC particle reinforced aluminum alloy. The fatigue lives of the specimens were significantly increased after LSP treatment, demonstrating the potential for enhancing the performance of metal matrix composites.

Summary: The study found that multiple laser shock peening can significantly improve the residual stress, microhardness, and tensile properties of direct metal laser sintered Maraging steel 300. Laser peening introduces compressive stress, refines grain size, and increases yield strength and microhardness of the samples.
