Graphitic carbon nitride-based photocatalysts in the applications of environmental catalysis

Onion-liked carbon-embedded graphitic carbon nitride for enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen evolution and dye degradation

Summary: Limited light absorption and low charge separation rate in graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4)-based photocatalyst are overcome by embedding onion-liked carbon (OLC) structures in the matrix. The highly hybridized and electrically conductive OLC broadens visible light absorption, narrows the band gap of g-C3N4, and promotes the separation of photo-generated carriers. The g-C3N4/OLC composites show significantly increased hydrogen evolution rate and efficient degradation of RhB, demonstrating the potential of OLC in designing carbon-based photocatalysts for solar energy conversion and pollutant degradation.

Efficient visible light driven degradation of antibiotic pollutants by oxygen-doped graphitic carbon nitride via the homogeneous supramolecular assembly of urea

Summary: Graphitic carbon nitride (CN) is a promising photocatalyst for environmental treatment. In this study, oxygen-doped CN nano sheets (CNO) with porous structures were synthesized using a self-assembled approach. The formation process of CNO and the control of oxygen doping amount were investigated. The obtained CNO photocatalysts showed excellent visible-light photocatalytic performances and the degradation pathway of sulfamerazine (SMR) was proposed. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that oxygen doping changed the electronic structure of CN, making it easier to activate O2. This work provides a novel approach for the development of high-performance nonmetal photocatalysts.

Degradation of simazine by heat-activated peroxydisulfate process: A coherent study on kinetics, radicals and models
