Genetic and multi-omics analyses reveal BnaA07.PAP2In-184-317 as the key gene conferring anthocyanin-based color in Brassica napus flowers

Shenhua Ye et al.

Summary: The study reveals that two insertions in the promoter region activate the transcription of BnaA07.PAP2, leading to the production of apricot and pink colors in B. napus flowers. Through metabolome, BSA-seq, and RNA-seq analyses, the key genes and metabolites associated with apricot and pink flower colors have been identified. The map-based cloning of BnaA07.PAP2 further confirms its role in anthocyanin-based flower coloration. The findings provide important insights into the genetic basis of flower coloration in B. napus and offer valuable genetic resources for breeding varieties with novel flower colors.

Evolution and functional diversification of R2R3-MYB transcription factors in plants

Yun Wu et al.

Summary: R2R3-MYB genes are a large and diverse transcription factor gene family in plants. They have undergone expansion through genome duplications and small-scale duplications, resulting in the emergence of subfamilies/groups with specific roles in plant-specific biological processes. Recently derived R2R3-MYBs with highly homologous intron patterns are particularly associated with specialized metabolism and have become predominant in land plant genomes. The evolution and functional diversification of plant R2R3-MYBs are of great interest and further studies will enhance our understanding of this gene family.
