Existence and regularity of weak solutions for a fluid interacting with a non-linear shell in three dimensions

Boris Muha et al.

Summary: In this study, the unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in three dimensions interacting with a non-linear flexible shell of Koiter type are investigated. A coupled system of non-linear PDEs is derived, where the moving part of the boundary is unknown. A priori estimates are introduced to reveal higher regularity of the shell displacement beyond energy estimates. These estimates are obtained using new analytical tools that exploit the dissipative effects of the fluid for the non-dissipative solid. The developed tools are further used to introduce a generalized Aubin-Lions-type compactness result suitable for fluid-structure interactions.

Fluid-structure system with boundary conditions involving the pressure

Jean-Jerome Casanova

Summary: This study deals with a coupled fluid-structure system with boundary conditions on pressure. The fluid is described by the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in a 2D rectangular-type domain, while the upper part of the domain is described by a damped Euler-Bernoulli beam equation. The research proves the existence and uniqueness of local strong solutions without assuming smallness on the initial data.

Weak solution to the incompressible viscous fluid and a thermoelastic plate interaction problem in 3D

Srdan Trifunovic et al.

Summary: This paper addresses the nonlinear interaction problem between an incompressible viscous fluid and a nonlinear thermoelastic plate, proving the existence of a weak solution through a hybrid approximation scheme. The convergence of the approximate quasilinear elastic force is demonstrated using a compensated compactness method based on the maximal monotonicity property of the nonlinear function.

L-p Theory for the Interaction Between the Incompressible Navier-Stokes System and a Damped Plate

Debayan Maity et al.

Summary: This study investigates a viscous incompressible fluid governed by the Navier-Stokes system in a domain with deformable boundaries, where the displacement follows a damped beam equation. The main results show the existence and uniqueness of strong solutions for the fluid-structure interaction system in an L-p-L-q setting for small times or small data. The proof involves analyzing a linear parabolic system coupling the non-stationary Stokes system and a damped plate equation, demonstrating the maximal regularity property of the linear system through the R-sectoriality of the corresponding operator, and utilizing a change of variables and fixed point argument to handle the nonlinearities of the system.

Existence of strong solutions for a system of interaction between a compressible viscous fluid and a wave equation *

Debayan Maity et al.

Summary: This article discusses a fluid-structure interaction system where the fluid is viscous and compressible, and the structure is part of the boundary of the fluid domain and deformable. By introducing a modified Lagrangian change of variables to transform the moving fluid domain into a rectangular cuboid, the corresponding coupled system has been shown to have a unique strong solution locally in time.
