Riparian ecosystems mapping at fine scale: a density approach based on multi-temporal UAV photogrammetric point clouds

Elena Belcore et al.

Summary: This study aims to improve the individual crown detection from UAV-photogrammetric datasets in two ways. Firstly, a new density-based approach was tested and showed potential in achieving accuracy comparable to traditional methods without being heavily affected by under- and over-fitting. Secondly, the use of intra-annual multi-temporal datasets was assessed and found to effectively improve the accuracy of individual crown detection.

A Density-Based Algorithm for the Detection of Individual Trees from LiDAR Data

Melissa Latella et al.

Summary: This study introduces a novel LiDAR algorithm for accurate individual tree detection in deciduous forests, with low sensitivity to parameter setup and applicability in low-density point cloud analysis. Additionally, the algorithm demonstrates potential for more complex tools in forest modeling and management.

What Factors Shape Spatial Distribution of Biomass in Riparian Forests? Insights from a LiDAR Survey over a Large Area

Leo Huylenbroeck et al.

Summary: This study utilized LiDAR data and an individual tree approach to investigate the spatial distribution of aboveground biomass in riparian forests in the Meuse catchment of Belgium. Results showed that biomass patterns were influenced by parcel history, land use, and topographical variables, with anthropogenic factors playing a dominant role.

Bulk Drag Predictions of Riparian Arundo donax Stands through UAV-Acquired Multispectral Images

Giuseppe Francesco Cesare Lama et al.

Summary: This study assessed the impact of riparian vegetation morphology on bulk drag coefficients distribution along an abandoned vegetated drainage channel by integrating reflectance indices and hydrodynamics. The analysis of UAV-acquired multispectral imagery on bulk drag predictions along the vegetated drainage channel was enabled through comparative analysis between NDVI and LAI maps of Arundo donax stands.
