Graphene coupled TiO2 photocatalysts for environmental applications: A review

Nisha T. Padmanabhan et al.

Summary: Nanostructured photocatalysts, such as titanium dioxide (TiO2) composites with graphene, hold promise for addressing environmental challenges by providing a clean and sustainable ecosystem to humanity. The coupling of TiO2 with graphene has shown to be more active in photocatalysis, with graphene sheets facilitating the transfer and separation of photo-generated electrons during TiO2 excitation, ultimately reducing electron-hole recombination. Various design strategies and synthetic routes have been highlighted to enhance the interfacial charge transfer dynamics in TiO2/graphene nanocomposites for environmental remediation applications.

Photocatalytic degradation of malachite green dye by ZnO and ZnO-β-cyclodextrin nanocomposite

Renu Yadav et al.

Summary: Water, the primary source of life, is often contaminated with organic and inorganic impurities, with organic dyes from industries being a major contributor to pollution. This study focused on the photocatalytic degradation of malachite green dye using zinc oxide nanoparticles and beta-cyclodextrin. Characterization of the nanomaterials was done through various techniques, and optimization of parameters like dye concentration, pH, and catalyst amount was conducted. The study found that the ZnO-beta-CD composite showed better photocatalytic activity compared to ZnO NPs, with a plausible mechanism for the degradation process proposed.

Green fabrication of zinc oxide supported carbon dots for visible light-responsive photocatalytic decolourization of Malachite Green dye: Optimization and kinetic studies

Anithadevi Sekar et al.

Summary: Zinc oxide supported carbon dots were synthesized from gum ghatti using a microwave process, showing enhanced photocatalytic efficacy for the degradation of Malachite Green dye under visible light. Incorporating 1 wt% of ZnO significantly improved the photocatalytic activity, achieving a degradation efficiency of 94.8% within 60 minutes of irradiation. The environmental impact was also assessed by using the treated dye water to grow mung bean plants, demonstrating comparable growth to the control group and hindered growth in the MG dye solution.

Nanostructured TiO2 Sensitized with MoS2 Nanoflowers for Enhanced Photodegradation Efficiency toward Methyl Orange

Sagar Kite et al.

Summary: In this study, TiO2 sensitized by MoS2 heterostructures were prepared and showed improved photocatalytic activity for the degradation of MO. The optimal loading of MoS2 was found to be 5.0 wt %, leading to a 21% increase in MO photodegradation efficiency under UV-vis light compared to pristine TiO2. The enhanced performance was attributed to efficient charge transfer, high surface area, and elevated surface oxygen vacancies.
