A review of municipal solid waste in China: characteristics, compositions, influential factors and treatment technologies

Summary: Municipal solid waste (MSW) poses a serious threat to human health and the environment due to its toxicity, mutagenic activity, and carcinogenicity. Waste sorting and recycling are recognized as efficient and economical strategies for handling MSW. The average daily generation of MSW in China is around 0.73 kg per day, classified into food waste, recycling waste, landfill waste, and hazardous substances.
