Landscape Change and Associated Increase in Habitat Fragmentation During the Last 30 Years in Coastal Sand Dunes of Buenos Aires Province, Argentina

Ailin Austrich et al.

Summary: The Eastern Barrier of Dunes (EBD) and Southern Barrier of Dunes (SBD) along the coast of Buenos Aires province, Argentina, have been severely altered by anthropic activities, leading to the gradual replacement and fragmentation of natural habitats, with EBD being the most impacted by human activities.

Land use change simulation and spatial analysis of ecosystem service value in Shijiazhuang under multi-scenarios

Xing Gao et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the changes in land use and ecosystem service value in Shijiazhuang over 30 years using remote sensing and statistical data, simulated future land use changes under three scenarios, and estimated the value of ecosystem services. The results showed a decrease in farmland area and increase in built-up area with urban expansion, leading to fluctuations in ecosystem service value. It is recommended to establish urban ecological networks for sustainable development.

The Global-DEP conceptual framework - research on dryland ecosystems to promote sustainability

Bojie Fu et al.

Summary: The article discusses the current research status of drylands globally and identifies four key themes, each with three research priorities, to facilitate actionable interdisciplinary research and achieve Sustainable Development Goals in drylands. It also proposes a new Global Dryland Ecosystem Programme to address the needs of practitioners and policymakers in drylands.

The Resilient Recurrent Behavior of Mediterranean Semi-Arid Complex Adaptive Landscapes

Irene Petrosillo et al.

Summary: The study uses non-linear data analysis techniques combined with vegetation index to study desertification, identifying hotspots of land degradation and new potential candidate sites, providing operational advantages for landscape planning. The innovation of the research lies in the explicit identification of areas resilient and non-resilient to desertification, which can support more targeted interventions and conservation priorities.
