Fabrication of novel lithium lead bismuth borate glasses for nuclear radiation shielding

Mohammed A. Algradee et al.

Summary: Glass samples with varying Bi content were prepared and studied as shields for gamma rays and fast neutrons. The results showed that the addition of Bi2O3 improved the attenuation characteristics, with the Bi40 sample demonstrating the best shielding properties.

On B2O3/Bi2O3/Na2O/Gd2O3 glasses: synthesis, structure, physical characteristics, and gamma-ray attenuation competence

Y. S. Rammah et al.

Summary: The influence of Gd2O3 on the structure, physical properties, and radiation shielding capabilities of newly prepared glasses was investigated. The addition of Gd2O3 led to changes in density, mass attenuation coefficient, atomic cross section, and effective atomic number of the glass samples. The radiation shielding capacity was found to be the highest in Gd4 glass, while the fast neutron removal cross section was the lowest in Gd0 glass.

Structural, optical and nuclear radiation shielding properties of strontium barium borate glasses doped with dysprosium and niobium

G. Sathiyapriya et al.

Summary: In this study, five new strontium barium borate glasses doped with dysprosium ion and different concentrations of niobium pentoxide were synthesized. The glasses were investigated for their physical, structural, optical and gamma radiation shielding properties. It was found that the addition of niobium pentoxide increased the boron-boron distance and oxygen packing density, while decreasing the molar volume of oxygen.

Nuclear radiation shielding behavior for prepared LNZP glasses doped with (CdO plus Te)

Emran Eisa Saleh et al.

Summary: The glass system consisting of 5Li(2)O-(40-x) Na2O-xZnO-55P(2)O(5) doped with 2 wt% (CdO + Te) exhibited excellent gamma-ray shielding properties, with LNZP6 glass sample showing the best protection among the examined glasses. The atomic cross section (ACS) and electron cross section (ECS) parameters peaked at 0.015 MeV and decreased with increasing photon energy for all samples. The effective atomic number (Z(eff)) values were highest at 0.04 MeV for LNZP0-LNZP6, indicating the potential for efficient gamma-ray protection.

The concentration impact of Yb3+ on the bismuth boro-phosphate glasses: Physical, structural, optical, elastic, and radiation-shielding properties

K. A. Naseer et al.

Summary: This study investigates the concentration impacts of Yb3+ on a series of bismuth boro-phosphate glasses. The results show that EBiBP2Y glass is suitable for sound-resistant purposes and has the best shielding performance against gamma radiation within the studied energy ranges. The R-squared values obtained from two techniques indicate high consistency in the results.

Physical, optical and radiation shielding features of Yb3+ ions doped H3BO3 - Bi2O3 - BaCO3 - CaF2 - ZnO glasses

K. Mariselvam

Summary: In this study, a series of Yb3+ ions doped barium bismuth fluoroborate (BBFB) glasses were prepared and their structural, physical, optical, and nuclear radiation shielding parameters were investigated. The results showed that the increase in Yb3+ ions concentration directly influenced the glass behavior, particularly its resistance to gamma-ray and fast neutrons. Excellent material properties were observed for 2YbBBFB glass, suggesting its potential for future optical and gamma-ray shielding applications.

Gamma-ray shielding studies on borate glasses containing BaO, Bi2O3, and PbO in different concentrations

Reza Bagheri et al.

Summary: The properties of borate glasses, such as μm, HVL, σa, Zeff, and Neff, are related to the concentrations of BaO, PbO, and Bi2O3. Bismuth oxide borate glass showed the highest μm and σa values at higher photon energies, while the 50Bi2O3:50B2O3 glass system had the highest Zeff value at 30 keV photon energy.
