On black hole formation in higher dimensions

Naresh Dadhich et al.

Summary: The two main processes of black hole formation are collapse of a matter cloud under its own gravity and accretion of matter onto an already existing gravitating centre. However, these processes cannot operate in higher dimensions to form a rotating black hole except in pure Lovelock gravity theory.

Circular orbits around higher dimensional Einstein and pure Gauss-Bonnet rotating black holes

Naresh Dadhich et al.

Summary: In this paper, circular orbits around higher dimensional rotating black holes are studied. It is found that there are no stable circular orbits around Myers-Perry black holes, while bound and stable circular orbits do exist for pure GB/Lovelock black holes. This property serves as a nice discriminator between Myers-Perry and pure GB/Lovelock rotating black holes.

Weak cosmic censorship conjecture for the (2+1)-dimensional charged BTZ black hole in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet Gravity

Summary: The study explores the properties of (2+1)-dimensional charged black holes in EGB theory, revealing that both extremal and nearly-extremal states can be overcharged, leading to a violation of the weak cosmic censorship conjecture.

On overspinning of black holes in higher dimensions

Sanjar Shaymatov et al.

Summary: In dimensions greater than 5, the repulsive effect of a rotating black hole due to rotation dominates over the attraction due to mass, preventing overspinning. Additionally, in dimensions greater than 4, a black hole with one rotation parameter set to zero will have only one horizon and thus cannot be overspun. This leads to the conclusion that rotating black holes in six and higher dimensions, as well as those with a rotation parameter switched off, always adhere to the weak cosmic censorship conjecture.

Weak cosmic censorship conjecture in Kerr-Newman-(anti-)de Sitter black hole with charged scalar field

Bogeun Gwak

Summary: We investigate the weak cosmic censorship conjecture in extremal and near-extremal Kerr-Newman-(anti-)de Sitter black holes by scattering a massive scalar field with charge. While the black hole may exceed its extremal condition due to changes in its state caused by the scattering, it cannot be overcharged or overspun. The weak cosmic censorship conjecture is valid for any scalar field boundary conditions and is thermodynamically preferred for this scattering process.
