Revisiting the Bonding Scenario of Two Donor Ligand Stabilized C2 Species

Sai Manoj N. V. T. Gorantla et al.

Summary: Quantum chemical calculations were conducted on complexes of different ligands, revealing almost linear C-4 cores and high thermochemical stability. SNHCMe and DAC(Me) were found to be preferable ligands over NHCMe. Bonding analysis showed genuine cumulene C-4 moieties in some complexes, resulting from electron-sharing interactions between quintet fragments.

Isolable dicarbon stabilized by a single phosphine ligand

Tsz-Fai Leung et al.

Summary: Diatomic C-2 is a highly reactive species that has been stabilized and studied using a specific ligand method, despite being difficult to isolate in the condensed phase in the past. Experimental and quantum chemical analysis showed that both carbon atoms of this complex have carbene character and exhibit specific reactivity.

Indirect Access to Carbene Adducts of Bismuth- and Antimony-Substituted Phosphaketene and Their Unusual Thermal Transformation to Dipnictines and [(NHC)2OCP][OCP]

Jacob E. Walley et al.

Summary: The synthesis and thermal redox chemistry of the first antimony (Sb)- and bismuth (Bi)-phosphaketene adducts are investigated. It is found that N-heterocyclic carbene serves as an essential mediator for the reaction. Heating the compounds results in thermal reduction of the pnictogen centers to form tetraphenyldipnictines and an unusual bis-carbene-supported OCP salt.

Gallium Ligand Coordinated Group 15 Compounds (LGa-ECp', L=(CHNMe)2CH, E=N - Bi, Cp'=η1-C5H5): Changeover from Electron-Sharing to Donor-Acceptor σ-Interaction

Puthan Veetil Muhasina et al.

Summary: By analyzing the electronic structure and bonding situation in monomeric compounds of gallium with group 15 elements, it was found that they have a polarized Ga-E double bond, with varying nucleophilic reactivity towards lone pairs and pi-MOs. The nitrogen and phosphorous form charge-separated electron-sharing sigma-bond with Ga, while antimony and bismuth exhibit donor-acceptor interaction. The strength of pi-bonding decreases as the elements get heavier, indicating that group 15 elements in these compounds act as double Lewis bases with high proton affinity.

Reactivity of mono- and divalent aluminium compounds towards group 15 nanoparticles

Adrian Hauser et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel approach for organometallic group 13/15-compounds by reacting nanoparticular arsenic and antimony with low-valent aluminium species. The reaction resulted in the formation of unprecedented Al-As clusters and known Al-Sb compounds. The study significantly expands the structural variety of molecular group 13/15 compounds and highlights the utility of nanoscale group 15 precursors.
