Electron Symmetry Breaking during Attosecond Charge Migration Induced by Laser Pulses: Point Group Analyses for Quantum Dynamics

Dietrich Haase et al.

Summary: Quantum simulations show electron symmetry breaking in oriented benzene and Mg-porphyrin driven by short laser pulses, with specific subgroups of symmetry influenced by polarization and electric fields. A new theorem restricts the choice of target subgroups to those containing the symmetry group of the time-dependent electronic Hamiltonian interacting with the laser pulses. This can be applied to confirm or falsify complementary suggestions of electron symmetry breaking by laser pulses.
