TRM reinforced tuff and fired clay brick masonry: Experimental and analytical investigation on their in-plane and out-of-plane behavior

Jacopo Donnini et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effectiveness of a Textile Reinforced Mortar (TRM) system on tuff and fired clay brick masonry panels, showing a significant increase in in-plane shear strength for tuff panels compared to fired clay brick panels. The study also provided novel analytical formulations to predict the shear strength of reinforced panels by considering only the contribution of the TRM matrix. Additionally, the TRM system significantly increased the out-of-plane bending strength and ductility of both tuff and fired clay brick panels.

Mechanical Characterisation of Flax and Jute Textile-Reinforced Mortars

Niki Trochoutsou et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the mechanical performance of flax and jute lime-based composites under direct tension, exploring the mechanical contribution of the NTRM constituents. Results show that textile geometry and reinforcement ratio significantly affect the composite performance. Flax-TRM composites exhibit promising ductile behavior, high strength, and elongation capacity, making them a potential retrofitting solution for masonry structures.

Bond of Flax Textile-Reinforced Mortars to Masonry

Niki Trochoutsou et al.

Summary: The structural performance of Flax Textile-Reinforced Mortars (FTRM) systems bonded to a masonry substrate was investigated, with textile architecture significantly affecting overall bond performance. The effective bond length for single-layer systems is between 150 and 210 mm, with failure dominated by fiber rupture. High variation in stress distribution in multi-layer specimens can lead to premature delamination.
