Boosting oxygen evolution activity of nickel iron hydroxide by iron hydroxide colloidal particles

Qiang Li et al.

Summary: Negatively charged iron (III) hydroxide colloidal particles significantly enhance the OER activity of NiFeOH in alkaline media. NiFeOH@C-1000 exhibits a 40-fold enhancement of the OER activity, likely due to enhanced charge transfer and facilitated adsorption of key reaction intermediates.

Co-Fe-Cr (oxy)Hydroxides as Efficient Oxygen Evolution Reaction Catalysts

Junsheng Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of doping chromium on the activity of cobalt (oxy)hydroxide catalysts through a combination of DFT calculations and catalyst characterization. The results show that the optimal Co5Fe3Cr2 (oxy)hydroxide exhibits superior performance in terms of high current density and turnover frequency. Analysis from X-ray absorption and photoelectron spectroscopies reveals that chromium promotes the distribution of cobalt atoms and modifies the electronic structure. Quasi-operando electron energy loss spectroscopy confirms that chromium accelerates the oxidation of Co2+ to higher valence species, leading to significantly higher catalytic activity.

Multi-interface collaboration of graphene cross-linked NiS-NiS2-Ni3S4 polymorph foam towards robust hydrogen evolution in alkaline electrolyte

Haiqing Wang et al.

Summary: This study presents a multi-interface engineering strategy to achieve a delicate balance in the kinetics of alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The graphene cross-linked three-phase nickel sulfide foam exhibits superior catalytic activity in alkaline electrolyte and is better than most of the recently reported metal sulfides catalysts. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations confirm the favorable hydrogen adsorption and metallic nature of the electrocatalyst due to the interfaces between nickel sulfides and cross-linked graphene.

Enhanced BiVO4 Photoanode Photoelectrochemical Performance via Borate Treatment and a NiFeOx Cocatalyst

Jingnan Zhang et al.

Summary: The combination of boron-treated BiVO4 with NiFeOx electrocatalyst (NiFeOx/B/BiVO4) demonstrates excellent performance as a photoanode under solar illumination, achieving high current density at lower voltages without the need for sacrificial agents. This is largely attributed to the presence of [B(OH)4](-) ligands and NiFeOx electrocatalysts, which enhance the separation efficiency of photoelectron-hole pairs. This work provides a promising approach for developing efficient photocatalysts for solar water splitting.

Heterogeneous nanocomposites consisting of Pt3Co alloy particles and CoP2 nanorods towards high-efficiency methanol electro-oxidation

Niuwa Yang et al.

Summary: This study reports a synthetic strategy to prepare heterogeneous Pt3Co-CoP2 nanocomposites with high performance for methanol electro-oxidation. The nanocomposites exhibit strong electronic coupling between Pt3Co and CoP2 domains, resulting in decreased electron density around Pt atoms, which is beneficial for reducing the adsorption of poisoning CO-like intermediates on catalyst surfaces. The as-prepared Pt3Co-CoP2 nanocomposites show superior mass-based activity compared to commercial Pt/C catalyst and homemade Pt3Co alloy nanoparticles in both acidic and alkaline media.
