Coordinated Prefrontal State Transition Leads Extinction of Reward-Seeking Behaviors

Eleonora Russo et al.

Summary: The study revealed that during extinction learning, the responses of individual units in the mPFC to conditioned stimuli are not suppressed, but are instead accompanied by transitions across the entire population. When behavioral responses need to be updated, coordinated modulations between units push the network into a new stable state.
