Tailoring the crystalline phase and size of the MoO3 quantum dots via sonication induced modified top-down method

Dibya Jyoti Borah et al.

Summary: The paper presents a modified top-down method for synthesizing highly stable and water-soluble MoO3 quantum dots without surfactants. By controlling the sonication bath temperature, the size of the QDs can be tuned, with a deep investigation into their morphological, structural, and optical properties. The QDs exhibit poly-crystallinity with a mixture of orthorhombic and hexagonal phases, with the complete elimination of the hexagonal phase observed at certain sonication bath temperatures.

Facile green synthesis of 2D hexagonal MoO3 for selective detection of ammonia at room temperature

Neha Sakhuja et al.

Summary: The study presents a facile green synthesis method for 2D MoO3 for detecting ammonia at room temperature. MoO3 nanosheets with a metastable hexagonal phase were obtained by liquid exfoliation in water using ultrasonication. The phase transformation of MoO3 was attributed to water molecules intercalation in the 2D layers, resulting in excellent response towards ammonia in device tests.
