Establishment and Evaluation of a Core Genome Multilocus Sequence Typing Scheme for Whole-Genome Sequence-Based Typing of Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Hauke Toennies et al.

Summary: A novel cgMLST scheme for P. aeruginosa was established using a Bayesian approach to determine different groups, incorporating 15 reference strains and 3867 target genes. The scheme was highly reproducible and was validated through comparisons with SNP results and other cgMLST schemes, demonstrating its accuracy in outbreak investigations.

Serratia marcescens outbreak in a neonatal intensive care unit and the potential of whole-genome sequencing

A. Muyldermans et al.

Summary: Analysis of a Serratia marcescens outbreak in an NICU from 2018-2019 revealed that replacing siphons and weekly decontamination with acetic acid were key infection control measures. Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) enabled faster recognition and accurate mapping of the outbreak, facilitating the implementation of control measures. Additionally, WGS provided valuable insights into the spread of antibiotic resistance and virulence genes.

Exploring the value of MALDI-TOF MS for the detection of clonal outbreaks of Burkholderia contaminans

Selali Fiamanya et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the high resolution identification capability of MALDI-TOF MS in discriminating Burkholderia contaminans isolates into clonal epidemiological clusters. Classification algorithms show 100% recognition capability for all outbreaks, 96.63% recognition for the location model, and a consistent peak identified in all non-typeable strains.

Core Genome Multilocus Sequence Typing and Prediction of Antimicrobial Susceptibility Using Whole-Genome Sequences of Escherichia coli Bloodstream Infection Isolates

Ritu Banerjee et al.

Summary: The study sequenced 50 Escherichia coli bloodstream isolates from the clinical laboratory and 12 E. coli isolates referred for pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE), assessed their clonality using core genome multilocus sequence typing (cgMLST), and evaluated genomic susceptibility predictions using ARESdb. The overall categorical agreement between genotypic (ARESdb) and phenotypic susceptibility testing for 62 isolates and 11 antimicrobial agents was 91%. High major error rates were found for ceftazidime, cefepime, and piperacillin-tazobactam among the referred isolates.
