Efficient generation of singlet oxygen (1O2) by hollow amorphous Co/C composites for selective degradation of oxytetracycline via Fenton-like process

Peidong Hong et al.

Summary: This study introduces a novel hollow amorphous Co/C composite for efficient generation of 1O2 to degrade oxytetracycline. The optimized samples showed nearly 100% degradation of oxytetracycline under neutral conditions with good reusability and stability, demonstrating high anti-interference capacity in different water qualities. XPS spectra revealed vital electron cycles contributing to the formation of 1O2, while quenching experiments and EPR testing confirmed 1O2 as the dominant oxidative species in the reaction without hydroxyl radicals. Additionally, Fukui function and T.E.S.T analysis provided valuable insights into degradation pathways and ecological risks of oxytetracycline and its intermediates.

Molybdenum Dioxide Nanoparticles Anchored on Nitrogen-Doped Carbon Nanotubes as Oxidative Desulfurization Catalysts: Role of Electron Transfer in Activity and Reusability

Juncong Zou et al.

Summary: The electron transfer between metal-oxides and supports greatly impacts the performance of catalysts in oxidative desulfurization (ODS), with molybdenum dioxide with oxygen vacancies (V-O-MoO2) catalysts anchored on electron-rich nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes (NC) showing excellent ODS activity and reusability. By promoting dispersion of V-O-MoO2 and reducing the bond energy of the Mo-O bond, the strong electron-donating effect of NC on V-O-MoO2 enhances exposure of active sites and enriches oxygen vacancies, leading to effective desulfurization.
